Planning better access to healthcare

Vision HealthCare Foundation

The Navy League and Vision HealthCare Foundation are developing an integrated school and community health programme, with Baba Island School identified as the initial pilot site.

A planned school health programme

The proposed collaboration covers eye health, hearing, oral and dental health, nutrition and growth monitoring, health education, and referral and follow-up services. The scope will be guided by a joint assessment of school and community needs.

Continuity of care

The framework proposes digital student health records and monitoring systems to support follow-up. Vision HealthCare Foundation would provide technical leadership, trained health professionals, screening protocols and referral arrangements.

Building local capacity

Training is envisaged for teachers, school staff and community volunteers. The partners have also discussed potential Community Health Assistant or Nursing Assistant training for eligible local young people, subject to further development.

Programme planning

Vision Health Care Foundation agreed in principle to proceed after the needs assessment, school data sharing and implementation arrangements. Through this partnership, students at Baba Island School will receive comprehensive screening to support the early identification of health and vision-related concerns and ensure that children can access the care they need.

This collaboration reflects shared commitment to creating healthier learning environments and ensuring that every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive without preventable health barriers.
