Exploring Swat, Chitral, Kalash and Shandur together, celebrating friendship and heritage with The Navy League.
The Navy League brought together 24 members and spouses for a memorable tour of Swat, Chitral, Kalash and Shandur from 10 to 16 September 2026. Beautiful landscapes, cultural visits and the warmth of old friendships made this a special experience. Here are some highlights of their journey.

Description
The Navy League organised a seven-day inland tour to Swat and Chitral Valley, bringing together 24 participants, including members and their spouses. With members joining from Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad, the tour offered an opportunity to renew friendships and explore the scenery and cultural heritage of northern Pakistan.
The journey through Swat included the White Palace, Fizagat and Mingora Bazaar. Travelling onward through the Lowari Tunnel, participants enjoyed views of mountain villages, rivers and the Hindu Kush before reaching Chitral.
An excursion to Bumburet in Kalash Valley was a highlight of the visit. The Kalasha Dur Museum, traditional villages and handicraft market offered an insight into the Kalash community’s distinctive culture and traditions, set against the valley’s mountain surroundings.
The journey to Shandur took members through Laspur and Mastuj valleys. Shandur’s renowned polo ground and lake were memorable attractions, with wide mountain views adding to the experience. The programme also included Booni, Qaqlasht Meadows, the Booni viewpoint and Quli Waterfall, offering further opportunities to enjoy the landscapes of Upper Chitral.
In Chitral, visits to the Shahi Mosque, Shahi Fort and Chitral Museum introduced participants to the region’s history and heritage. Local bazaars and viewpoints added variety to the tour before the return journey through Swat to Islamabad.
For many participants, the most valued part of the visit was the company of fellow members and their families. Shared conversations, recollections of naval service and the group’s cheerful spirit made the journey particularly enjoyable. Members appreciated the support shown to one another when difficult roads and long travelling hours presented challenges.
Participants thanked the Navy League management and tour Committee and coordinator during visit, Cdr Zulfiqar Ahmed Memon, for their efforts. Members feedback also highlighted the value of a gentler pace, shorter journeys and regular rest stops when planning future outings for senior members.
The visit strengthened friendships across the League’s chapters and left participants with fond memories of the places they explored and the time they shared.
